Tithe Barn ~ Bradford-upon-Avon ~**********************************************************************************
The magnificent Tithe Barn at Barton Farm was used by wealthy landowners to collect "tythes", or taxes. These were collected from the people of Bradford-on-Avon. The taxes would be paid in the form of produce and livestock. Built in the early 14th century, produce would be brought to the barn across the 14th century packhorse bridge which was built especially for that purpose. The building has been restored and has one of the largest stone roofs in Europe. Some of the scenes from the film version of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" were shot there, as well as scenes from Robin of Sherwood.
